The Rural Payments Agency and Natural England provide £90 per hectare for managing deer. This is available where deer have been identified in the Woodland Management Plan as a threat to regeneration, semi-natural woodland, or where browsing impacts negatively on woodland.
The Deer Management Plans provided by Scottish Deer Management to landowners, are sufficient evidence to apply for this grant.

Defra alarmed by deer numbers soaring above two million
DEFRA is responding to exploding deer numbers, with the latest survey showing a population of over two million deer. Individual farms suffering losses of over £1million are reported. Farmer's Weekly report that incentives to landowners to promote effective culling are one of the measures DEFRA propose to address this risk to agriculture.
